It’s Back? It Never Left! It’s Dinner Theatre!

The Palm TheatreDinner theatre combines a theatre production with a restaurant experience in the same room. In the Unites States it became really popular in the 1970s. At its peak, there were 147 professional dinner theatres operating around the country. Many former movie and television stars brought some glamour and glitz to the basically regional theatres.  Betty White was a prominent dinner theatre actress at one point.

After a bit of a decline in the 1980s, the art form started to make a comeback in the early 2000’s. By 2009, the number of theatres had risen from a low of nine in 1999 to 32. One of these new venues is the Palms Theatre.

Combining a full theatre show with a dining service is no small feat. For management, they need to operate a theatre, restaurant and a bar. For performers, it can be a fun challenge to perform while patrons are eating their meals. The great thing is it offers parents a fun way to introduce their children to the theatre experience. It can be a very romantic experience with couples enjoying a musical or play while they eat. Dinner and a show still can’t be beat for a good night out on the town.
